Frequently Asked Questions
Who is a candidate for breast enlargement?
Women who have never developed to the size they desired in the first place and women who at one time had more breast tissue but then lost size through weight loss or pregnancy

Although the women who get most publicity are those in the public eye, with somethimes extravagant surgery results, most women seeking augmentation are more representative of the cross section of women.
Where are breast implants put in?
You and your surgeon will decide on a breast size and shape,he will also advise at this consultation as to whether the implant will be placed behind or in front of the muscle. Sometimes this decision has to be made during surgery

The Surgeon will insert the implants beneath the existing breast tissue or tisse and muscle. The incision itself is normally hidden in the crease beneath the breast.

The procedure takes about an hour, and is performed under general anaesthetic and requires an over night stays.
What is the recovery time?
Following surgery you should bath daily for the first week, filling water up to your waistline but making sure you do not get the operation area wet.

Following your first change of dressing after seven days, you may start to take showers. After 14 days normal bathing and showering is allowed. You will wear a full supprt bra for the first two weeks both day and night.

Following this the bra should be worn for six weeks whenever you are doing any work or exercise. If you have an office job, we would advise you take seven days off work and with anything more stenuous we would advise two weeks.
Is it dangerous to have something silicone in your body?
In recent tests carried out in both the USA and the UK, there is no scientific evidence that silicone has any detrimental effect on the body. Most people are surprised to learn that we all have silicone in our bodies.

It can be found in our lymph glands, and our immune system. Silicone gets into our bodies mostly from drinking water, as it is used as a lubricant in the pipes, pumps and valves that carry water. We also breath silicone from aerosols and perfumes.

None of these has ever found to be dangerous. There are hundreds of implanted medical devices made of silicone, from pacemakers, to artificial joints.
Can implants cause breast cancer?
There has been no evidence of an implant causing breast cancer. It has been well known for decades that 25% of laboratory rats will form an unusual type of cancer in response to foreign objects in the body.

This kind of cancer is extraordinary rare in humans, and there has been no connection with breast implants.
Do implants limit activities?
Women with breast implants are capable of doing any type of sport or physical activity that can be achieved by women without. The implants do not hinder such physical exertion, and they will not break during forceful impacts. However, it must be considered that in some activities having heavier breasts may be a disadvantage.
Will my breasts go hard after surgery?
In the past, breasts have occasionally become hard after surgery. This was a natural result of the healing process, since the body would form a protective shell of fibrous tissue called a 'capsule' around the implant. The majority of these capsules are soft and therefore, do not alter the shape or consistency of the breast.

Unfortunatly with a minority of cases after time the capsule may shrink around the implant, compressing it and making it feel hard. However, implant manufacturers have made significant improvements in their designs, which have dramatically reduced the incidence of this condition.
